Homeopathy is not the same as 'Herbal or Home Remedies'

Many people mistakenly equate homeopathy with herbal medicine or home remedies. While some homeopathic medicines might be made from plant sources (thus suggesting they are 'herbal'), they are derived from many other natural substances including mineral and animal substances.  These medicines or homeopathic remedies go through an elaborate process called ‘potentization’ where they are converted into sub-molecular (quantum) preparations in an FDA approved pharmacy. The original substance is diluted to such an extent, that there is little (if any) left in the final remedy and what remains is considered to be an energy imprint. This is the reason that homeopathy is regarded as energy medicine. Once prepared, homeopathic remedies have none of the toxic effects of the original substances and yet have a stronger effect in stimulating the body’s healing processes than the original substance.

According to the World Health Organization, homeopathy is the second-most and fastest growing medicine in the world, the first being Chinese Medicine.

Homeopathy is practiced nowadays in countries all over the world. Homeopathy has a global popularity that far exceeds its use in the U.S. In fact, it is estimated that over 500 million people use it worldwide. In Europe, approximately 40% of all physicians use or refer patients to practitioners of homeopathy. It is integrated into the national health care systems of countries like Germany, France, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Greece, Israel, India, Pakistan and Mexico.

Homeopathy has saved millions of lives for centuries,

Especially during the epidemics of scarlet fever, small-pox, typhoid, cholera, polio, and Yellow Fever. For example:

  • In 1831 Cholera swept through Europe. Homeopaths treating the disease achieved a mortality rate of less than 4% compared to conventional medical treatments, where the mortality rate was 59%. In 1854 during the cholera outbreak in London, deaths at the London Homeopathic Hospital were a mere 16.4% compared with the 50% average for other hospitals.

  • In the records of three years of Diphtheria in Broome County, NY from 1862 to 1864, there was a report of an 83.6% mortality rate among the allopaths and a 16.4% mortality rate among the Homeopaths. (Bradford)

  • The Journal of the American Institute for Homeopathy, May, 1921, had a long article about the use of homeopathy in the flu epidemic. Dr. T A McCann, from Dayton, Ohio reported that 24,000 cases of flu treated allopathically (conventionally) had a mortality rate of 28.2% while 26,000 cases of flu treated homeopathically had a mortality rate of 1.05%.

Homeopathy is not ‘New-age Medicine.’

Homeopathic medicine is neither a movement, nor does it have anything to do with New Age. It is a tried and true medical practice and pharmaceutical science developed by the German scientist and physician, Samuel Hahnemann, during the 1800’s. Since then the popularity of homeopathy has steadily increased as people discover its ability to prevent and treat even the most serious health conditions.

The English Royal Family has been under homeopathic care since 1830.

Fun Fact: Queen Elizabeth carries her ‘black box’ of homeopathic remedies on all her travels.

Homeopathy in a nutshell

German physician, Samuel Hahnemann, disturbed by 18th century medical practices which he thought did more harm than good, developed a new system of medicine in the late 1700’s. He quit his medical practice and labored for many years seeking more gentle and effective ways to cure diseases.   While experimenting with Cinchona bark, the drug used to treat malaria, he made an amazing discovery; after ingesting the Cinchona bark to his interest and surprise, he soon fell ill with symptoms indistinguishable from malaria.  When he discontinued the medicine he returned to health.

Hahnemann continued to experiment (primarily on himself), testing various herbal and mineral substances.  He noted all of the symptoms produced by each medicine in meticulous detail.  He found that no two substances produced exactly the same set of symptoms. Each caused its own unique pattern of symptoms.

Like Cures Like’…

Homeopathy is the scientific application of the Law of Similarity, often referred to as like cures like. Simply stated, what a medicine can cause in a healthy person, it can cure in someone who is sick. This principle stems from Hahnemann’s real world observations of diseases and their cure. For instance, most of us have experienced the effects of cutting an onion: the profuse watering of eyes which is usually bland, while the nasal discharge is burning. In homeopathy, we use a homeopathic preparation of onion to treat ailments such as hay fever or sinus where there is irritation of the nasal passage, eyes and throat. The more closely the symptoms of the patient match those of the medicine, the greater the benefit.

Homeopathy acknowledges that we are not all the same. Not everyone’s hay fever will be cured by onion.  It is important to realize that we do not all become sick in exactly the same way. While any number of different people may suffer from hay fever each will experience it differently. For instance, some may prefer warm rooms and open air, some have itching in the nose, some have itching in the back part of the mouth, some have spasmodic sneezing, some have burning eyes and others have a burning nasal discharge. Because each person has different symptoms, each will require a different medicine…the medicine that is most similar to their unique symptoms.
